In a devastating assault on Kyiv early Monday, Russia unleashed a barrage of missiles and drones, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals and wounding 46 others, including five children, as reported by Ukrainian officials. The attack caused significant destruction to residential areas, with rescue efforts continuing amid fears that the casualty numbers could increase.

Emergency services have indicated that at least 15 apartment buildings suffered damage or were completely destroyed during the overnight offensive. Among the hardest-hit areas was a nine-story residential building in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, where emergency teams are actively working to rescue those trapped beneath the debris. Additionally, a fatality was reported in the Bucha district, located northwest of the capital.

Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged conducting the extensive strike, which they characterized as “massive,” employing long-range missiles and drones. The stated targets included military sites, energy infrastructure, and airfields not only in Kyiv but also in various other regions of Ukraine.

This latest attack follows closely on the heels of another significant Russian offensive that occurred just days earlier, claiming at least 27 lives in Kyiv. This previous assault stands as one of the most lethal attacks on the city throughout this year.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed ongoing battles in the Donetsk region, specifically around the strategic town of Kostyantynivka. He has refuted Russian assertions that their forces have seized control of the town, underscoring the continued resistance and fighting in the area.
